SNEAK PEEK – NEW OPIUM BY YSL

.

I was visiting South Coast Plaza yesterday and was browsing the fragrance counters of Bloomingdale’s and came across some very interesting news. Rhonda Pelloni the counter manager at Yves Saint Laurent shared some wonderful information with me. YSL is launching its first iteration of Opium this fall. It is will be named Belle D’ Opium.

Rhonda gave me a sneak peek into her YSL master book and revealed the gorgeous flacon for this revamp of the classic, iconic juice. The accords look like they are going to be fruitier and sweeter than the original.

The dry, spicy oriental, resinous juice that became the rage in the eighties is going to have a new olfactory signature with peach top notes, a jasmine heart and Nargileh. Nargileh is the Persian word for Hookah, the water pipe that is popular in Middle Eastern countries.

Adding a dab of sweet hookah tobacco might just give this juice the right balance of smoke and spice. Belle D’ Opium arrives in October. It is anticipated to one of the hottest selling fragrances of the holiday season.

Rhonda at the YSL counter in Bloomingdale’s at Costa Mesa is wonderful. If you have a chance to visit her in October for the launch of the Belle D’ Opium tell her you read about it in Perfume Aficionado.
